the race this weekend. it may not matter though... donald trump was way ahead in the most recent polls... and is expected to carry the state tonight. "we have strong voters... that nobody else is going to be able to do." that same poll showing rubio at 19 percent, texas senator ted cruz at 17 percent with dr ben carson and ohio governor john kasich trailing in the single digits. now the caucus doesn't start until 5pm tonight - results aren't expected until after 9. all the candidates will be ping ponging across the state trying to squeeze out all the support they can. again the rubio rally is at the silverton casino at 8 this morning. doors open at 7am. tonight... nevada leiutenant governor mark hutchison will join supporters at a caucus night celebration for marco rubio. its happening at 9 p-m at dom demarco's pizzeria

doors open at 8:30. doctor ben carson will be at a town hall meeting this morning at sun city summerlin. carson will address the crowd from 10 to 11:30 a-m inside the mountain shadows community center. doors open at 8 a-m. following the town hall meeting... carson is hosting a luncheon across town at the red rock country club. the luncheon goes from noon to 1:30 in the afternoon. make sure you register for the event on doctor carson's website. front runner donald trump will start his day up in northern nevada speaking at a rally in sparks... trump will then fly back to vegas for his caucus watch party tonight. it starts at 8:00 o'clock inside the treasure island ballroom. doors there open at 5:30. senator ted cruz is working around the clock to get his message out to republican voters before tonight's caucus. cruz spoke about illegal immigration, and his efforts to protect american jobs yesterday at a rally at the durango hills community center. "every one of us is here today, because our country is in crisis. because we're bankrupting our kids and grandkids. because our

rights are under assault every single day." nevada attorney general adam laxalt is joining senator cruz on his tour of the silver state. cruz will attend rallies in minden and carson city today before he heads back to las vegas for a party at the y-m-c-a. both events are free. at 8 o'clock tonight, cruz will be back in las vegas for an election results party at the y-m- c-a on meadows lane. doors open at 8. at least one local republican lawmaker won't be caucusing here in nevada. congressman joe heck will not participate in tonight's event. his spokesman says instead, heck will be "doing his job in washington d-c." heck also has not endorsed a presidential candidate. back in december, he told fox5 none of the candidates checked all of his boxes on important issues. make sure to tune in to fox five news at five for the "first in the west" republican caucuses. we'll have live coverage from the candidates local caucus headquarters and results at the end

for a look at our full election coverage... head over to fox5vegas dot com and click on elections under the news tab. the clark county coroner has identified the woman who's body was found in a laundry chute at the d casino and hotel downtown. the coroner's office says its 26- year-old kalli medina-brown from the sacramento, california area. according to daily mail... the 26- year-old legal secretary was in town celebrating birthday when she was found unresponsive sunday morning. she was dead by the time help arrived. homicide detectives are investigating, calling her death suspicious. medina-brown's body was discovereddeath was shocking news to her loved ones back home, who had this to say about her. "cali was just a sweet kind all around great person who would talk to anyone whether it was a child or an old person. she just had a wonderful heart and soul."

a legal assistant at a firm in folsom. her co-workers say she will be deeply missed. police haven't said how her body ended up in the laundry chute. bail was set at 25-thousand dollars for the local father who's 12-year-old son shot and killed himself. 31-year-old odin manuel is facing child abuse charges because police say the gun the boy used was too easily accessible. "he had firearm in house it was loaded. child got a hold it wasn't properly locked up and now we have dead 12 year old because of his defendant action." a defender for manuel argued bail should be set low, so manuel could provide for his family and mourn the loss of his son. if manuel posts bail, he will be placed on house arrest. manuel is due back in court tomorrow. in another courtroom... lawyers debated with a judge over the questionairre that will be presented to a jury before deciding if javier righetti should be sentenced to death for killing

otremba. the arbor view sophomore was walking home house, when she was kidnapped, killed. righetti has the murder. friday's deadly strip is due before a judge tomorrow morning. yesterday police released more information about the suspect, omar talley's lengthy criminal record. fox5's christina maddela has a look at the police report.

that conclusion that led up to the shooting investigators say the man with the gun is talley, they think he pointed it an one of the women in the other car. a few minutes later, officers tell us shots were fired from tally's car at harmon west of the 15. in this exclusive video, you can see the scene friday morning as emergency crews closed off the street. that's where one woman was found shot, laying in the street. people heard the shots, i don't have an actual witness to the shooting from there, the car, with jackson in the passenger seat, drove to the cosmopolitan hotel valet. valet attendants helped jackson and the other woman in the car, both who had been shot. the two women died, jackson survived. christine maddela fox5 local las vegas>> talley told police he was drunk and under the influence of marijuana at the time. he continues to maintain his innocence, saying he took a cab to the strip and actually tried to break up the fight at the miracle mile parking garage.

and jennifer chicas, both from california, died in the shooting. we all know clark county is facing a teacher shortage... but it's also a problem in other parts of the country. clark county and the 'american association of colleges for teacher education' met at u-n-l-v yesterday to discuss solutions to the problem. clark county's shortage is partially due to the increasing number of students entering the district. to bring in more teachers... c-c-s-d is offering more than two dozen different ways to get licensed. cassandra jones and traffic solutions. this is fox5 news this morning. fiji is just beginning the clean up process after that devastating cyclone. on tuesday, people were handed out relief supplies. fiji's government says getting help to remote islands and communities remains a top priority. the powerful cyclone --- tore through the region on saturday... with winds reaching 177 miles per hour., thousands of homes were destroyed. more than 45- hundred people are displaced. and at least 29- people have died. officials say the storm is the strongest in fiji's recorded history. giant waves are washing over the roads in honolulu, and some are carrying big rocks with them. take a look. the water prompting officials to close a 12-mile stretch of highway... only emergency vehicles, city

its changing riviera boulevard's name to elvis presley way. it is not clear when the change will officially take place. the new elvis presley way will run from the strip to paradise .. in front of the westgate. elvis performed 645 shows there.. when it was the international and then the las vegas hilton. in today's health news... health officials in canada are advising against colonoscopies for some people. the "canadian task force on preventive health" released an advisory, saying adults between 50 and 74, who are low risk and symptom free should instead be screened with a special kind of blood test every two years. or have a procedure known as flexible sig- moy-dos-copy, a procedure done every ten years. it's important to note that health offical here in the u.s still recommend a colonoscopy every ten years. fewer teens and young women are becoming infected with h-p-v. the c-d-c says infections from the sexually- transmitted

are down 64- percent in teens. all because more people are getting vaccinated. infections among women in their early twenties is also down by a thrid. but researchers say vaccination rates are currently still too low. two new studies say drinking three to five alcoholic drinks per week.. may be good for your heart. in one..researchers analyzed more than sixty thousand people.. they say those who reported having three to five drinks a week-- had a 33-percent lower risk of heart failure... in the second those who had the same amount of alcohol each week-- had a 28-percent lower risk of heart attack. important to note here... the team says they saw an increased risk of death from certain cardiovascular diseases... when people drank more than five drinks a week.. selfies have become part of

life after police say he was abused by the woman his parents trusted to care for him. the boy's parents almost three months ago and has had several surgeries since, just last night. martinez valle spoke to the family.

we now know what caused a power outage at the westgate that left hundreds of casino guests in the dark last week. officals say a faulty transformer's to blame the clark county fire department says an old transformer started smoking late thursday

this little guys was found half frozen outside a barn. after a few days of care...his health started to improve.. but wasn't moving his legs. it was then that vets realized he was paralyzed. instead of putting him down, the team at overlook acres made him a make- shift wheel chair. he's now as happy as can be--whizzing around with his new set of wheels. ok parents.. here's an important lesson! never...and we mean never.. make food too cute to eat! it's going to be a jam packed day full of rallies... the first one starts in just a few hours. marco rubio is hosting a rally at the silverton this morning. doors open at 7. the rally starts at 8 rubio has a personal connection to nevada, spending 6 years of his childhood here. he has also picked up an endorsement from jeb bush who dropped out of the race this weekend. it may not matter though... donald trump was way ahead in the most recent polls... and is expected to carry the state tonight. "we have strong voters... that nobody else is going to be able to do." that same poll showing rubio at 19 percent, texas senator ted cruz at 17 percent with dr ben carson and ohio governor john kasich trailing in the single digits.

she was dead by the time help arrived. homicide detectives are investigating how her body end up there, calling her death suspicious. medina-brown's death was shocking news to her loved ones back home, who had this to say about her. "cali was just a sweet kind all around great person who would talk to anyone whether it was a child or an old person. she just had a wonderful heart and soul." medina-brown was a legal assistant at a firm in folsom. the suspect in friday's deadly shooting near the strip is due before a judge tomorrow morning. yesterday police released more information about the suspect, omar talley's lengthy criminal record. fox5's christina maddela has a look at the police report.

talley. they say he started fighting with jerraud jackson in the parking garage. there was a fight on the 3rd floor of miracle mile parking garage involving 2 females up to 4 males that's when security broke up the fight. jackson and two women go into one car. police tell us tally got in his car and followed. on one part of the video, there is a man with a gun, drawing that conclusion that led up to the shooting investigators say the man with the gun is talley, they think he pointed it an one of the women in the other car. a few minutes later, officers tell us shots were fired from tally's car at harmon west of the 15. in this exclusive video, you can see the scene friday morning as emergency crews closed off the street. that's where one woman was found shot, laying in the street. people heard the shots, i don't have an actual witness to the shooting from there, the car, with jackson in the passenger seat, drove to the cosmopolitan hotel valet.

the other woman in the car, both who had been shot. the two women died, jackson survived. christine maddela fox5 local las vegas>> talley told police he was drunk and under the influence of marijuana at the time. he continues to maintain his innocence, saying he took a cab to the strip and actually tried to break up the fight at the miracle mile parking garage. the victims have been identified as 27 year old melissa mendoza and jennifer chicas, both from california we all know clark county is facing a teacher shortage... but it's also a problem in other parts of the country. clark county and the 'american association of colleges for teacher education' met at u-n-l-v yesterday to discuss solutions to the problem. clark county's shortage is partially due to the increasing number of students entering the district. to bring in more teachers... c-c-s-d is offering more than two dozen different ways to get licensed. n-h-p spent several hours on the scene of a blue diamond. we're told one person died and another had to be airlifted to the hospital. the 5-vehicle crash happened just before six last night, at blue diamond and the state route 159 turn off. take a look at the photo n-h-p sent us from the scene. three of the vehicles involved were motorcycles. the other two were cars. troopers say one of the motorcycles crossed over into oncoming traffic, triggering the crash. all roads in the area have reopened. a street on las vegas boulevard will be renamed in honor of the king of rock and roll. the county says its changing riviera boulevard's name to elvis presley way. it is not clear when the change will officially take place. the new elvis presley way will run from the strip to paradise .. in front of the westgate. elvis performed 645 shows there..

international and then the las vegas hilton. in today's health news... health officials in canada are advising against colonoscopies for some people. the "canadian task force on preventive health" released an advisory, saying adults between 50 and 74, who are low risk and symptom free should instead be screened with a special kind of blood test every two years. or have a procedure known as flexible sig- moy-dos-copy, a procedure done every ten years. it's important to note that health offical here in the u.s still recommend a colonoscopy every ten years. fewer teens and young women are becoming infected with h-p-v. the c-d-c says infections from the sexually- transmitted "human papilloma-virus" are down 64- percent in teens. all because more people are getting vaccinated. infections among women in their early twenties is also down by a third but researchers

homicide investigation... fox5 shannon moore has been at las vegas bouvlevard north and craig all morning long. she brings us the latest. metro interviewing witnesses out here at the scene -- they tell us the victim is a white male in his 20's - a fight apparently broke out around 2:30 this morning in the parking lot of the nellis suits. police say the suspect fired multiple shots - hitting the victim - he was taken to the hospital where he later died. investigators believe the shooter actually knew the victim - they were acquaintances of some sort -- saying this was not a random act of violence -- the suspect came here looking for the victim -- ans though they don't know exactly what the argument was over - its believed it may have had something to do w a car that had some damage to it. officers are now looking for the suspect whom police say took off in a dark 90's jetta w gold rims and arizona plates. they

but will not be releasing that info at this time . now officers are not letting anyone in or out of the parking lot. just to recap -- they don't believe this was a random shooting. they didn't have any evidence to suggest it was gang related -- they say they'll be out here for several more hours though they hope to reopen the lot so folks can get to work this morning. bail was set at 25-thousand dollars for the local father who's 12-year-old son shot and killed himself. 31-year-old odin manuel is facing child abuse charges because police say the gun the boy used was too easily accessible. "he had firearm in house it was loaded. child got a hold it wasn't properly locked up and now we have dead 12 year old because of his defendant action." a defender for manuel argued bail should be set low, so manuel could provide for

mourn the loss of his son. if manuel posts bail, he will be placed on house arrest. manuel is due back in court tomorrow. in another courtroom... lawyers debated with a judge over the questionairre that will be presented to a jury before deciding if javier righetti should be sentenced to death for killing 15-year-old alyssa otremba. the arbor view high school sophomore was walking home from a friend's house, when she was kidnapped, tortured and killed. righetti has pleaded guilty to the murder. a baby boy remains hospitalized after police say he was abused by the woman his parents trusted to care for him. the boy's parents say he was hurt almost three months ago and has had several surgeries since, the most recent, just last night. fox5's miguel martinez valle spoke to the victim's family.
